KTP, Josh Weinstein, & Julia Othmer at Lestat's West
King Taylor Project returns home after three months on the road! We watched from afar as Louis Brazier and the San Diego music community fought to keep Lestat's alive, and we are thrilled to play our return-from-the-road show at a venue so near to our hearts.
We are joining forces on July 14th with two incredible artists:
- Opening the night is Julia Othmer, a delightful and enchanting L.A.-based songwriter we met and fell in love with on the road in Philadelphia.
- Following her performance will be one of our all-time favorite songwriters, a man we are honored to count among the KTP family, the incomparable Josh Weinstein.
Please come celebrate with us as we take the incredible inspiration we've had on the road, and share some brand new music with you at the one and only Lestat's West. #makemusicandlove
"Perhaps the best way to explain [Julia] would be if Norah Jones, Tom Waits, Billie Holiday, and Lyle Lovett had a musical orgy and let you watch behind a curtain of burning lace and a whiskey waterfall. I'll bring the unfiltered cigarettes, you bring your soul." - Out of Print Magazine
Julia Othmer is a "captivating" piano-playing singer/songwriter known for her energetic live performances. Tracks from her critically acclaimed debut album, Oasis Motel, have been featured on such shows as Witches of East End, Switched at Birth, The Lying Game, Army Wives, Party of Five, and DeGrassi: The Next Generation and earned her songwriting awards from the Billboard World Song Contest and the International Songwriting Competition. Supported by a successful Kickstarter campaign, Julia has completed her new album "SOUND" - a collaboration with producer/composer James "JT" Lundie.
"Josh Weinstein is a philosopher/poet who happens to play amazing piano (plus whatever else he can get his hands on). With Love & Alcohol, Weinstein may fully establish himself in critical circles as one of the most talented songwriters the US has to offer. This is the sort of performance that gets considered for awards." -Wildy's World Reviews
Bukowski-esque lyrics evoke a a slide-show of anonymous strangers haunting the dark corners of a midnight city. Shades of front-porch-blues and field-gospel co-mingle with Waitsian jazz and folk harmonies. Rock guitar pulses over upright bass. A single voice calls out over slow-burn blues piano while a trumpet plays from the next room.
KING TAYLOR PROJECT
"...soul-blues band King Taylor Project, based around the vocals of Sandi King and guitar/vocals of Joshua Taylor, is one of the hottest prospects in town at the moment. The secret to the bands success being in their terrific songs, such as melancholy rocker 'High Road,' that sound like standards in the making. Their shared vocals also add much to their sound, but this is one of the strongest combos to hit the local music scene in quite some time." - Bart Mendoza - SDNews.com
